Green Acres is the place to be….

“There have been some exciting developments occurring in Green Acres Plaza as of late!  Most recently, the Country Sampler has added a café within their business.  The Fireside Café opened on August 19th, and serves a variety of delicious and refreshing coffee products right in the store.  The coffee itself is produced by Fireside Coffee, a Michigan-based, family-owned company that the Country Sampler has been stocking for close to a decade.  The store has also hired four new employees to work at the café, and provides Wi-Fi internet access for those looking for a place to sit back and relax.

The Plaza has also welcomed the addition of an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in the space previously occupied by Big Lots.  Ollie’s offers name brand merchandise at a fraction of the cost of other stores.  Come by on September 19th at 9 AM for the grand opening event, featuring an appearance by NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne!

Finally, the Lettuce Lounge Eatery is set to open up shop soon in Green Acres Plaza.  Saginaw Township residents Margo and Kurt Lambert hope to offer salads, sandwiches, and other healthy food options to the area at reasonable prices.  The restaurant will feature indoor seating, Wi-Fi internet access, and catering services.”

Who’s ready for some holiday shopping?

3rdtreelightingIt may seem a long time from now but Christmas really is just six months away.  It’s July 23 and already most retailers are promoting back to school shopping (it’s still barely summer!).  But even though we like to savor the holidays as they come, now is just the right time to start planning your December events.

We are looking for you to commit to participating in Lighting up State Street.  For more information and to sign up without a ton of decision making, visit here.

Congratulations to United Financial Credit Union!  The official ribbon cutting was held on June 24, 2013.  The 10,000 square foot addition will be home to administrative offices for the credit union.  The building and it’s beautiful landscaping are a welcome addition to the State Street Corridor.  Do you have an upcoming event?  Let us know so we can help spread the word.

Father’s Day

Shopping for Father’s Day can be a challenge.  Not necessarily because Dad is picky but because it can be a struggle to find a gift that isn’t a traditional tie, set of golf balls, etc.  The State Street Corridor is home to some creative examples of Father’s Day gifts and we’re going to highlight some different options here over the next few days.

stonequestOne great option for a gift is a construction project where you do the actual hard labor.  Stone Quest is located at 6245 State Street.  They offer materials and services ranging from mulch to  materials for paver patios, stone outcroppings, outdoor kitchens and fire pits.   They have a large selection of decorative stone with 31 different kinds from 15 states and 3 countries. In addition to the decorative stone they offer 13 different mulches, a number of different wall and paver suppliers in addition to natural stone.  If you’re thinking of a fire pit gift for dad, click here to see more information.

A unique and exciting feature that Stone Quest offers is the ability to learn how to install their products. There are two upcoming seminars to learn how to install paver and wall systems, June 11 (Tuesday) from 6 to 7 p.m. and June 22 (Saturday) from 3 to 4 p.m.  All seminars are at Stone Quest and last about 1 hour. Pre-registration is required, and spots are limited so please call 989-791-2281 to reserve your spot.  Stone Quest is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 3:30 pm.  Stone Quest is currently running a special promotion where you can be entered to win a $200 certificate toward Oaks Pavers and Wall Block.  All you need to do is like their Facebook Page.  The promotion runs through June 15th.

Mother’s Day is Almost Here

You know, this is one of those holidays that never changes. It’s the same time each year. Don’t wait until Saturday night to think about Sunday morning. There are dozens of opportunities along State Street to shop for your mom (and, if you want to be ahead of the game, your pop too).  If you’re looking for a creative option and a gift that will provide a lasting memory, consider a professional photograph.  Hick’s Studio  is one of the oldest storefronts in the area specializing in photography.

The studio is home to some of the finest photographers, many of them certified professional photographers with the PPA.  Throughout the months of May and June, the studio is featuring Mommy and Me/Daddy and Me portrait specials, which make a great remembrance gift for any mom or dad.  You can view their poses and portrait packages at, or call (989)-792-1171 to schedule a session.

What do you want State Street to be?

Last night we had our initial meeting to discuss potential changes to zoning on State Street. While we had a decent turnout, we are hoping that you will attend the next meeting.  Our first meeting focused on the basics of zoning: what it is, why we have it, and what happens when zoning goes wrong.  We also had a discussion of what the purpose of a new or revized zoning district would be on State Street.  We asked, “What do you want to see?”

Here’s what we came up with:

Our next meeting is scheduled for May 15 at 5:30.  Please try to make it.

Day 14 – You Know She Wouldn’t Buy it For Herself

Ask moms the last time they purchased something just for themselves, and most would probably have to think a while.  As a mom it’s easier to put the needs and wants of your children before your own.  Mother’s Day is the perfect chance to splurge a little.  X-treme Salon and Spa, located in the Green Acres Plaza, is hosting a mother’s day special.

xtremeX-treme Salon & Spa, run by owner and master stylist Correna Bradford, is situated in Green Acres Plaza.  The salon offers a variety of great services, including haircuts, massages, facials, waxing, manicures/pedicures, and many more. For a surprise event, you could even arrange to go with your mom for pedicures or manicures – or maybe it’s a great way to involve the grandkids in her Mother’s Day Gift. They are also holding several specials throughout the months of April and May.  This could be the perfect gift to celebrate Mother’s day with.  You can find more information on their Facebook page or by calling (989)-791-9700.
